Molly Cain is a vivacious firecracker who is out to change the world one step at a time. Six years ago, Molly had an accident that left her in a coma with the right side of her body paralyzed. Verdict being, Molly sustained a traumatic brain injury. Doctors could not provide false hope to family and loved ones, and with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) not one is a like. Molly defined the odds that were given to her by making goals and pushing for more. After she took her first step, alone, Molly knew that the world was her playground. “Asking myself, what are you going to create? I had zero idea of a landing place but a heart so full of love and determination. I thought I would never know what I was fully capable of, until I tried.”
A little over a year after the accident, Molly was ready to cross another highlight off the list of dreams. She decided to run her favorite race, The Bix, in the Quad Cities (Iowa). This race was 7 miles of pure hell, sweat and tears but she would do anything for her my TBI family, raising awareness of traumatic brain injuries. Molly decided to run this race to raise money for the hospital that helped her gain a second chance at life (where Molly did outpatient therapy.) This was a whispered roar in her communities. WQAD, the local news station, ate the story up and wanted to support the cause and overall mission of raising awareness of traumatic brain injuries.

“I’m Molly Cain and as persistent and determined as they come.”
Molly chose to not stop there, but to continue creating with the momentum and drive derived from helping her TBI family. In 2016, Molly Cain started a nonprofit organization in Northern Colorado, SMILE #UWokeUp. SMILE #UWokeUp is a nonprofit organization designed to provide awareness of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) to our communities, while providing support, tools and tips and TBI prevention insight. SMILE #UWokeUp hold bi-weekly support group meetings, community events, fundraisers, all while providing education and outreach in our communities. The group passion is helping to educate our communities on a tragic occurrence that is also referred to as a traumatic brain injury. Molly soul craved endurance racing and defining the odds in other ways on behalf of the organization.
In 2018, Molly Cain is signed up for two events that will help her to raise awareness of traumatic brain injuries on behalf of SMILE #UWokeUp. May 19, Molly is competing in an Ultramarathon, Superior Spring Trail 50K in Lusten, Minnesota. Followed by an Ironman 70.3 in Boulder Colorado on August 4.
