As a traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivor, our injuries are outlined and dictated by the Glasgow Coma Scale. I believe that my purpose is to help educate others on their brains, just as much as to help fill others with the education process of what a TBI survivor goes through and how one is classified.
My name is Molly Cain, and I am the Founder of SMILE #UWokeUp. SMILE #UWokeUp is a nonprofit organization designed to provide awareness of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) to our communities, while providing support, tools and tips and TBI prevention insight.
The most authentic version of myself, was built and designed from the acceptance of my TBI. March 30, 2012, I was faced with an obstacle in the form of a TBI: coma… I was a 4 on the Glasgow Coma Scale, gaining these points by wiggling a finger or two and blinking my eyes.
Do you know what the Glasgow Coma Scale is? The Glasgow Coma Scale is what doctors use to determine what is needed in your recovery process with therapies, quiet time, ect.
With being a 4, I was given little chance to ever regain ‘life’ again. Learn more about the scale here: http://www.traumaticbraininjury.com/symptoms-of-tbi/glasgow-coma-scale/
