“Does it get easier to move through life with a TBI (traumatic brain injury) after your sustain one?”
This is something that I am asked more often than not, and the bottom line is YES! In fact, the first steps start with you. Surprise!
Being aware of your behavioral changes is a gift and a place that you should heavily embrace. Be aware of your surroundings, aware of your boundaries and limits, and aware of your interactions as these are all a part of the first acting stages. Know your alignment – Especially, when battling a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
What does this mean? It means that with a TBI, you are learning a whole new you all over again. Every move made, is like the first time – Because it essentially is. In order to understand the new you with dialogue or your integration back into the ‘real world’, you must be open to acceptance. You are capable of so much more than what appears when paired with the TBI label.
My name is Molly Cain, and I am a traumatic brain injury survivor. Next week will mark my 7-year anniversary from sustaining my TBI. I am still learning and embracing Molly Cain as the traumatic brain injury thriver – the new me. Life gets easier, but ultimately the choice is ours. How are we going to set our posture. Will your emotions come unglued or will you hold a calm, cool and collective mantra? Attitudes dictate our brain power and what thoughts we are choosing to let it wander off with.
Choice? The choice to accept the new you and journey, by truly living life to your fullest potential in your highest form.
Choice? You are choosing to tackle this obstacle, even if it does not make sense. In fact, these are the moments when true treasures come to embrace and embody us in full-strength.
This does not mean that as a traumatic brain injury survivor, I do not forget words and names and previous conversations (Until they’re repeated three times). It also doesn’t mean that stimulation does not affect me, I just tend to face my limits more often than not. Above mumbojumbo being stated, in the big picture of life. How stinking blessed I feel to only be facing these minor obstacles that string along from a TBI.
Life gets easier, when you learn how to operate as the new YOU – SMILE #UWokeUp
